The misery of football, parts one and two
November 23rd, 2009The hand of God incident, - a sort of remake of Maradona’s cheating - by Thierry Henry last night during the qualification between France and Ireland is just another bad joke. Referees need their heads checked. The FIFA moguls need to relook at that match and at minimum a replay must be on the cards. But players who act like prima donnas think they can do what they want when they want it on the pitch. Football resembles capitalism, there are rules but they do not apply . It is a free for all. A real mess, for in the end the World Cup means big money, players are just components in the big automaton machine . To think only of the football matches is not enough, that is the surface, but beneath that football sells all sorts of products. Pay as you watch TV keeps big money rolling in. Hence the footbalistic wages of the players. It resembles more and more Ancient Rome, when gladiators were coveted and highly priced . But that did not stop the Roman Empire from collapsing, of course the collapse took plave over a period of 300 or 400 years. But there were other factors namely the Empire had got bigger and bigger and the frontiers were stretched to the limits under the attacks by “barbarians”. Recent reports have shown that these so-called barbarians were in fact quite sophisticated and some had been at the service of Rome, until the day they turned against their former masters.
So let’s come back to last night’s infamous match with the Thierry Henry Maradona remake, no doubt Henry will be given a warm reception everywhere he goes. The only thing left to do is to boycott the World Cup.
Algerian celebrations
Let’s face it Algerian people have not much to celebrate about. Algeria is racked by terrorism -coming from the Salafists ,ie.fundamental muslims and the Algerian State which has put oil on the fire in order to divide and rule, a real mess. So it is no wonder that Algerian supporters of the national football took to the streets when they beat Egypt in a World Cup qualifier.
Algeria has not been in the world cup for so many years. In years before the Independence many players in the French national team were Algerians. Indeed one of the best was Mekloufi who defected when the war of independence started. France was left with a big loss. So people in Paris were demonstrating to celebrate the victory , not of France , but of Algeria, this created a few incidents in many French towns. Many young people of Algerian background took to the streets to show their joy. As for France there were no celebrations it seems, the shame of winning by cheating leaves a sour taste. To do a Maradona is never forgotten.
The FIFA chiefs ought to order a rematch between France and Ireland. As for Roy Keane’s stupid attack on the Irish , it really shows what kind of donkey he is.
So long for now.
