Zizek farts again
June 29th, 2009Slavoj Zizek issued a statement on the situation in Iran last week: more than a few people are swooning over it already. Zizek forgets to say that people also scream “Death to the dictator” when they go onto their roofs every evening; it echoes what took place during the last days of the last Shah of Iran, when they also shouted God is great.
Zizek is wrong to put Berlusconi in the same bag as Ahmadinejad. There are no comparisons. Berlusconi is more like Sarkozy or Blair. Ahmadinejad has his own SA storm troops, the bassejis, a sort of militia of ruthless thugs, he also commands the so-called revolutionary Guards, a sort of theocratic SS.
Zizek is wrong: the Iranian so-called revolution was a disaster from the beginning, the take-over by a fundamentalist cleric was a signal, that everything was going to be as bad as the Shah’s regime. Indeed a joke went round Tehran that the new secret police of Khomeini had added an h to the old secret police of the Shah called Savak, it was now SAVAKH.
Zizek is a typical pinko-leftist who believes “that there is a genuine liberating potential in Islam.” It is a bad joke - many people in Iran are fed up with the ruthless ayatollah rule complete with a religious police. Zizek is a deluded idiot, and a confusionist.
In fact Iran needs to move away from religion. It must introduce a separation between state and religion. Religion must become a private affair. It is the only way out. The Supreme Guide must be demoted. This is the final call. The present uprising is Iran’s 1905. If no reforms are made, if Iran does not recognize Israel, if the nuclear arms program is not halted, if the elections are not annulled, if Ahmadinejad does not resign and is not indicted for corruption of the elections, then Iran will face even more difficult situations. Ahmadinejad will embark on an arms nuclear race, a nuclear flash point could take place, that will endanger the lives of millions of people in Iran for a start, and the world at large. The removal of Ahmadinajad, the dismantling of the Bassejis and the Revolutionary Guard-dogs , the demotion of all ayatollolahs is a preriquisite for a new Iran, in tune with the modern world.
